Hollywood take notice…

If you’re going to remake a movie, as you seem to have done for the umpteenth million time, please follow the lead of one Mr. Rob Zombie. Not only did he remake my all time favorite horror movie, he actually improved it, I have to give a shout out to Mr. Zombie, sir you rock! Thank you for putting what obviously was a love of the original movie into the remake, I salute you sir!

80’s horror movies…

Ok to begin, back injuries suck! Ok enough about that, so I took today off to rest because of the aforementioned back injury and decided that I would catch up on some old horror movies that I purchased when one of the chain of hollywood videos went out of business a few month’s back (here in San Diego, I am sure elsewhere but never cared enough to check where they were located). So for those who don’t know me (though I doubt there are a lot that read this blog that don’t know me) know that I have a penchant for bad horror movies, especially zombie flicks. I am a big fan of the italian zombie genre (as well as italian horror as well, but mainly zombie) including directors such as Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento, Ruggiero Deodato, et. al.

So at the going out of business sale I picked up a few classics like C.H.U.D., Basket Case, The Crazies and the two Ginger Snaps sequels (which absolutely rock, check them out), there are a couple of other films that I can’t recall of the top of my head, but I got 13 movies for 24 bucks so I can’t complain. So while I sit here and eat my raisin bran with bananas for dinner, I wanted to throw out a couple of quick comments about the movies that I watched this afternoon. The first one that I watched was Basket Case, now to be honest I had seen this movie when I was a kid and as most people know, what you remember from childhood as being awesome almost always falls far short when you go back in with *adult* expectations. To be honest I really didn’t remember much about the movie aside from the main story line and that the brothers name was Belial. This movie is campy as hell, horribly acted, yet I couldn’t stop watching it, not unlike a train wreck about to happen. There isn’t much to say about the film other than if you love really bad films I would highly suggest picking up (or renting/netflixing) this 80’s horror flick.

The second movie that I watched today was C.H.U.D., now this one surprised me to be honest. After watching Basket Case, I didn’t really have high expectations for this one, but was amusingly surprised. It definitely had a higher budget cast with actors who actually went on to star in some movies that the average person has probably even heard of (yeah my grammar sucks). If you like the 80’s *toxic waste* schlock type movies, then I would highly suggest C.H.U.D.

Land of the Dead

one sexah biatch

So of course because I posted the image link to Land of the Dead the other day I would have to watch it, and still love that damn movie. I think that all of the acting was great and I happen to be a big Asia fan, as well as her father Dario. But I love strong women in movies (I know some who would disagree) but this is my blog dammit ;). Wee…just random musings…

Just for giggles

One of my favorite Zombie movies is Romero’s Land of the Dead, I just happen to think that I works, YMMV. So personally I think Dennis Hopper is awesome in the movie, and he has one of the greatest lines in a zombie movie ever:

“In a world where the dead are returning to life, the word ‘trouble’ loses much of it’s meaning.” -Kaufman

I would highly recommend this movie if you like Zombie movies.

Dagon

Just finished watching Dagon again, god I love that movie.  It is a good adaptation of a lovecraftian story line, though it’s a mixture of many of his stories, I still thoroughly enjoy that movie.  I would highly recommend for any Lovecraft fan to check out this movie.  The acting isn’t the greatest, but what do you expect, it’s a horror movie ;).

Zoe Bell

I was introduced to Zoe Bell through Tarantino’s Death Proof, as I did not watch Xena. I happen to love Deathproof, I like movies where women get to kick a little ass, and no I don’t believe that emasculates them, but that’s your (whoever *you* are) opinion. I was instantly enthralled when DP started as I saw “and Zoe Bell as herself”. Now don’t get me wrong I have, as anyone who even remotely knows me, an affinity for really bad movies. Rather I tend to like horror movies, and am happily converting my wife to the darkside, well at least with a few, but I digress. I thought DP was a good movie for what it was, and I was struck by the charisma of this perky kiwi stuntwoman.

I just recently finished watching the documentary she made with Jeannie Epper called Double Dare, and from the scenes at the convention, Zoe is either a really awesome person or good at faking it for the camera. She is very laid back and easy going, it probably comes from being behind the scenes for most of her career and I hope that she retains the down to earth love for her fans. I am generally not one for praising people, as you can probably tell from my lack of writing skills, but this is all still new to me ;).

30 days of night…

Wow, what can I say, it’s been a long time since I have seen a vampire movie that portrayed vampires as what they were originally intended to be, Monsters. This movie was bleak, like most other reviewers mentioned, they used the backdrop of the arctic 30 days of night to bring forth these monsters, and the feeling throughout the movie is tense. I was impressed by how tense they were able to keep the story even though the pace of the movie isn’t fast. Lots of kills about 20-25 minutes in, then a lot of hiding and escaping. I would recommend the movie as it is a *horror* movie, and not the teeny bopper bullshit that has been disgracing the horror genre for the last 10 years.
