New Distro…
So I happen to come into the possession of a newish computer, it’s about 3 years old, has a P4 2.8GHz Proc and all it needed was some more RAM (the reason I acquired it in the first place). So with a new computer (to me anyways) I always like to try out new Linux distros (though I seem to always come back to Ubuntu in some form or another) and decided that this time I would try an offshoot of Ubuntu to begin with. So I am using Ubuntu Ultimate Edition. Now while the website definitely needs help, the distro itself is *teh awesome*! The version that I am using is based off of the new Hardy Heron 8.04 branch and has a bunch of nifty add on software from a custom repo. I have only been using it for the past couple of days, but I am very impressed thus far, and will post a follow up sometime in the near future with my likes / dislikes.

What is nice about Linux is that it doesn’t require a bleeding edge computer to do some outrageous stuff.
I hope you have better luck with the Ultimate Edition then I did.
I’m not blaming the Ultimate Edition for the problems I had. The problems stem from Hardy itself.
Software that didn’t work like Wine.
K3b burning coasters, computer lock ups and freezes.
File permissions that were screwed up.
I worked with it for 3 weeks before dumping it and going back to Gutsy.
I’m using a 3gig AMD CPU with 1 gig Ram. Not cutting edge but not outdated wither.
Several other friends have tried Hardy and/or Ultimate and all have had problems. Several had the Nvidia resolution bug.
Good luck with your new Ultimate system.
Even with all the problems I had, it still ran circles around Vista systems.
LOL!!
Enjoy the freedom.
