Ska and such…

So lately I have been getting into ska, the original 2 tone as well as 3 tone and the more modern stuff, but that’s beside the point, I really just wanted to post a link to this sond, which I think rocks. If you like it, you should check out my pandora playlist for the specials, really good stuff…

The video has been removed, but it was Streetlight Manifesto’s “A moment of silence” awesome song

What country do we live in…?

Taking pictures on LA’s Red Line violates the “9/11 Law” - Boing Boing
Thanks to G.W. and his cohorts, we can’t even take pictures in subways/airports/train stations/public places, so much for the land of the free. I personally don’t buy that it’s “for my own good” and “protection”. Call me naive, but all of the fear mongering by G.W. and his cohorts has made people afraid to live and this saddens me greatly. My question is why can’t they see by putting all of these restrictions on us as a people they are letting the terrorists win, as they keep us in a constant *state* of terror alert, that this just creates a society of fear and hate? These questions of course are rhetorical as I don’t really expect anyone other than people I know to read this, but there I said it. I could go on forever about this, but I have to get back to working…

Good (really good) Horror Movies…

Now for those that know me, that would garnish some amount of heckling just because I have a tendency to watch bad movies, of which I am 100% honest about and will be the first to admit. So this weekend my wife went out of town with her mom (to Palm Springs) to have a little *mothers day* celebration. So as most who know me this means I get to watch all the bad horror movies that I want ;) (well at least marathon them, she usually doesn’t mind if I watch them.) Now I did happen upon some mediocre ones, that were entertaining but nothing to write a blog post about, but there were two that I came across that blew me out of the water so I will post about them:

The first movie that I was amazed by is a film called “The Deaths of Ian Stone”, now for some this would be just run of the mill nothing special (as most would say about most of the movies I’ll blog about) but the main character played by Mike Vogel was awesome. For some reason he just came off as believable in this situation, though at some parts seemed a little contrived his potrayal of Ian Stone was awesome (and all the anger and angst that went with that). I don’t want to post too much about the movie other than it’s a little independent horror film that is part of the 2nd Horrorfest 8 Films to Die for festival. I would highly recommend any horror fan check out this movie (as there is a bit of gore those not privy to that probably wouldn’t like it too much).

The second movie that I saw that amused me greatly with the tag line “The Violence of the Lambs” was Black Sheep, this is a little sleeper from New Zealand that was just gory, funny and a blast a minute (there is so much wrong with this movie, but it’s so much fun to watch). It’s about genetic engineering of sheep and the consequences thereof, of which you can probably guess the results. If you like campy, gory, comedic horror movies that are just way over the top, then see this one.

The last movie is another of the 8 Films to Die For series and I was completely floored by this one, it’s called Mulberry Street . I will say that I was absolutely amazed by this film and this comment from imdb.com pretty much sums it up… Watch this movie it is the awesome, one of the best movies I have seen in years…Mucho props go out to all that starred in it but especially Nick Damici, who wrote and starred.

80’s horror movies…

Ok to begin, back injuries suck! Ok enough about that, so I took today off to rest because of the aforementioned back injury and decided that I would catch up on some old horror movies that I purchased when one of the chain of hollywood videos went out of business a few month’s back (here in San Diego, I am sure elsewhere but never cared enough to check where they were located). So for those who don’t know me (though I doubt there are a lot that read this blog that don’t know me) know that I have a penchant for bad horror movies, especially zombie flicks. I am a big fan of the italian zombie genre (as well as italian horror as well, but mainly zombie) including directors such as Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento, Ruggiero Deodato, et. al.

So at the going out of business sale I picked up a few classics like C.H.U.D., Basket Case, The Crazies and the two Ginger Snaps sequels (which absolutely rock, check them out), there are a couple of other films that I can’t recall of the top of my head, but I got 13 movies for 24 bucks so I can’t complain. So while I sit here and eat my raisin bran with bananas for dinner, I wanted to throw out a couple of quick comments about the movies that I watched this afternoon. The first one that I watched was Basket Case, now to be honest I had seen this movie when I was a kid and as most people know, what you remember from childhood as being awesome almost always falls far short when you go back in with *adult* expectations. To be honest I really didn’t remember much about the movie aside from the main story line and that the brothers name was Belial. This movie is campy as hell, horribly acted, yet I couldn’t stop watching it, not unlike a train wreck about to happen. There isn’t much to say about the film other than if you love really bad films I would highly suggest picking up (or renting/netflixing) this 80’s horror flick.

The second movie that I watched today was C.H.U.D., now this one surprised me to be honest. After watching Basket Case, I didn’t really have high expectations for this one, but was amusingly surprised. It definitely had a higher budget cast with actors who actually went on to star in some movies that the average person has probably even heard of (yeah my grammar sucks). If you like the 80’s *toxic waste* schlock type movies, then I would highly suggest C.H.U.D.
