80’s horror movies…
Ok to begin, back injuries suck! Ok enough about that, so I took today off to rest because of the aforementioned back injury and decided that I would catch up on some old horror movies that I purchased when one of the chain of hollywood videos went out of business a few month’s back (here in San Diego, I am sure elsewhere but never cared enough to check where they were located). So for those who don’t know me (though I doubt there are a lot that read this blog that don’t know me) know that I have a penchant for bad horror movies, especially zombie flicks. I am a big fan of the italian zombie genre (as well as italian horror as well, but mainly zombie) including directors such as Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento, Ruggiero Deodato, et. al.
So at the going out of business sale I picked up a few classics like C.H.U.D., Basket Case, The Crazies and the two Ginger Snaps sequels (which absolutely rock, check them out), there are a couple of other films that I can’t recall of the top of my head, but I got 13 movies for 24 bucks so I can’t complain. So while I sit here and eat my raisin bran with bananas for dinner, I wanted to throw out a couple of quick comments about the movies that I watched this afternoon. The first one that I watched was Basket Case, now to be honest I had seen this movie when I was a kid and as most people know, what you remember from childhood as being awesome almost always falls far short when you go back in with *adult* expectations. To be honest I really didn’t remember much about the movie aside from the main story line and that the brothers name was Belial. This movie is campy as hell, horribly acted, yet I couldn’t stop watching it, not unlike a train wreck about to happen. There isn’t much to say about the film other than if you love really bad films I would highly suggest picking up (or renting/netflixing) this 80’s horror flick.
The second movie that I watched today was C.H.U.D., now this one surprised me to be honest. After watching Basket Case, I didn’t really have high expectations for this one, but was amusingly surprised. It definitely had a higher budget cast with actors who actually went on to star in some movies that the average person has probably even heard of (yeah my grammar sucks). If you like the 80’s *toxic waste* schlock type movies, then I would highly suggest C.H.U.D.
